October 9, 2015 has become a red-letter day. From this date, surfing gained an official standing as a sport in Russia and future national competitions will be recognized as professional sporting events. Athletes will be subject to ranking and will receive titles according to their level of mastery and personal achievement.
Surfing will be recognized as a new and standalone sport outside of existing federations.
Russian Surfing Federation aims to develop the sport further through training center development, junior and adult team coaching, official championships, as well as the establishment of ranking and title systems. Naturally, should surfing be included in future Olympic Games, the list will include national team training and individual coaching.
From now on October 9thshall be known as Russia’s Surfing Day!
